“I live in Cochrane, and I believe there’s a lot of people in town who don’t know that there’s a food bank out there,” Tether said. “They also don’t really have a good idea about how difficult the conditions can be out on the reserve.”

“When we started this Stoney Nakoda office, we thought it was important to have culturally appropriate, meaningful things that we did out here. When we acquired this teepee, we thought this would be a good first step. We wanted to have that really strong visual. A building is wonderful but you want to have something that shows your commitment to the culture as well … I think it’s a great representation of that.”

An RCMP air operation attempting to locate stolen property on the Stoney Nakoda First Nation led to one man being charged and four vehicles recovered, police said.

“A lot has been lost. A lot has been taken. But, our communities are still resilient. The Stoney Nakoda people have a very strong cultural foundation and language foundation. We want to build on that.”
