“The fact that Banff and Canmore would be split and not be in the same riding makes no sense to me. I do have some major concerns there and I do think there is a way that it can be fixed.”

CANMORE – Like many other places in the Bow Valley, artsPlace is not immune to the ongoing staffing shortages. For the organization, the shortage is hitting the day camps that are held through the summer.

Wathtech, Îyethka îam, Mînî Thnî – these are some of the Stoney expressions a clothing company started by Morley Community School students aims to share and celebrate as points of cultural pride.

“They were having a relationship with this beautiful land that was there. The end of each of those days, they sat around a campfire with Stoney Nakoda elders and listened to stories of the land. True stories about its history and stories from their culture. At the end of their journey with that learning, they created a painting to reflect something they learned.”

Rows of berry shrubs recently planted near the Wesley Elders Lodge in Mînî Thnî mark the beginnings of a new traditional healing space taking shape.

“It is a residential subdivision area. It would be a combination of single-family homes, with suites, duplex lots and two multi-family lots. We want to hit all those price points and hit market demand for different levels in the Bow Valley. We feel like we are putting out a project that has a number of price points that way.”

“In terms of the maintenance, that is assigned by the community association to a group of volunteers. We have been doing everything by hand, and there is the expectation that would look different if we had snow removal equipment and a Zamboni.”
