“We’re still keeping a close eye on COVID and developments within the province and the country,” said Silvio Adamo, the director of protective services for the Town of Banff.

Administration is also investigating other potential locations for outdoor skating rinks in town following widespread public criticism that council turned down a rink on Bear Street earlier this month.

“The road system is finite and it’s beyond capacity…Beyond capacity means we can choose where to have a traffic jam, but we can’t choose not to have a traffic jam.”

“That’s a potential million dollar shift that we’re going to face at some point. It’s like waiting for the shoe to drop. It’s there, but you don’t know when you’re going to get it.

“There has been a change in philosophy and, yes, it’s been council approved, but it’s also administration directed… I am concerned by ever increasing costs,” said Councillor Ted Christensen.

Mark Tkacz is the third Bow Valley resident seeking the provincial NDP nomination for the constituency of Banff-Kananaskis, joining Canmore residents Sarah Elmeligi and Gavin McCaffrey.

“We typically get at least a couple of entanglements each season with deer running around with lights on their head,” said Eric Knight, a human-wildlife coexistence specialist with Banff National Park.

The Town of Banff had budgeted $100,000 in development permit revenue for 2021, but will hit closer to $220,000 by the end of the year.
