The first Canmore municipal election candidate forum officially kicked off the race to the Oct. 18 vote, as all 11 council candidates and two of the three mayoral candidates were on hand for the forum hosted by the Bow Valley Builders and Developers Association.

The final field of municipal candidates in Canmore are now known, with three people running for the mayoral seat and 11 up for the six councillors positions.

“CRPS will stand beside our neighbouring Stoney Nation in aligning with our educational partners as well as the national day for Truth and Reconciliation to honour survivors and families and communities."

“There’s lots of kids that bike to school using the trail system and on the odd occasion they are bumping into bears. We need parents to remind them to keep their eyes open, make lots of noise and preferably bike in groups.”

“I've always saw myself as a voice for the people of the riding, whether I've been in government or opposition. I always feel there's a way you can be effective and getting called out for those viewpoints. You just take a different approach, and I'll continue to take the approach I have. I believe we can still get results for our area. I believe that I can still be an effective voice for our constituents and always continue to work to do that.”

Former Town of Canmore Chief Administrative Officer and long-time Springbank resident Don Kochan is adding his name to a growing list of candidates for Rocky View County (RVC) council.

The first hearing with the the Land and Property Rights Tribunal was held over the defeated Smith Creek area structure plan.
