A proposed change to alter Canmore’s planning commission could be coming for the second time in less than a year.

What’s potentially the fastest planned area structure plan in the Town of Canmore’s history provides a rare opportunity for the mountain community.

“We believe apartment housing has the highest potential to address the needs of our community. Considering its location and the use and scale of the existing neighbouring property, an apartment housing development at 242 Marmot Cres. would have negligible visual and traffic impacts into the area.”

“Since the ASP was adopted in the year 2000, it has become increasingly challenging for residents to secure suitable and attainable or non-market affordable housing that meets their individual needs."

“Multiple Town departments currently have spatial constraints within the organization. Given the unknowns of the timing of future municipal growth, impacts of that unknown growth timing on future municipal facility planning, and the lack of Town-owned lands for municipal facility growth, administration is recommending that the next use of the facility be largely for municipal uses with the potential to co-locate other community services.”

“Residents are experts in what it is like to be Banffites and we want to hear from them about how to make Banff a better place into the future," said Banff Mayor Corrie DiManno.

“As EVs are becoming more mainstream, we wanted to get ahead of that and make sure we’re planning accordingly. We know these are the vehicles everyone will be driving. It’s niche right now, but it’s looking forward since all pathways show EVs will be the main passenger vehicle.”

“We have looked at models that exist in the compound that have not had commercial floor space associated with them and asked if that’s an opportunity that we could use there.”

“To be clear, it’s not about the work it’s the noise. You can work any time of day you want, as long as you’re not making noise,”

“We’re really excited to have another homeownership project coming down. It’s a pretty big waitlist to house more residents under our program at a price point that’s still pretty reasonable for our area and it’s something we’re really thrilled about.”
