An area closure in Canmore for a girzzly bear and cubs has been downgraded to a warning, while a cougar warning has been issued for the Willow Rock Campground in Kananaskis Country.

A grizzly bear, reportedly with cubs, has been seen at the Highline Trail and surrounding area, according to the Alberta Parks website, while multiple cougars have been spotted at Willow Rock Campground and Flowing Water Trail.

The warning posted to the Alberta Parks website indicates the grizzly bear and her cubs could be encountered anywhere from the Highline Trail to "Riders of Rohan, East and West Connector Trails, and all access trails between Three Sisters Blvd and Peaks Drive and all land south and west of Three Sisters Parkway, including land within the Town of Canmore."

"Although an advisory is in place for this area, bears [and cougars] can be encountered anywehere in the Kananaskis Region and at any time," the warnings said.

It is the same bear with cubs that bluff charged a Canmore woman jogging in the area, who had to use bear spray.

To avoid running into either, Alberta Parks reminds anyone in the areas to make plenty of noise as well as to travel in groups.

"Be aware of your surroundings. Look and listen for bears, [cougars], and their signs."

There is also a closure in place for Rawson Lake and Sarrail Ridge after a grizzly with cubs charged a person.

If going towards any of these areas, bring bear spray as well as report any sightings of either animal immediately to 403-591-7755.
