PHOTOS: The past week in photography in the Bow Valley

Despite weather suggesting the contrary, wildfire season has returned to the province, taking up the better part of the year running from March 1 to Oct. 31. While snow can linger well into May and make periodic appearances any other day of the year, the hot spots for potential fire dangers are around the corner.

The drainage is located in the Evan-Thomas Provincial Recreation Area, which has not had any major wildfires since 1936, according to the province. That’s almost 90 years of vegetation that’s been able to grow, decay, die, and accumulate – putting the area at a very high risk of severe wildfire.

“I don’t care where you look in the province, there’s demand. Public lands – there’s demand. Park lands – there’s demand. Kananaskis Country – there’s demand. In my view, this is a positive investment,”

Maxwell James Mayling, a Calgary man who was reported missing yesterday, has been found deceased. The cause of death is not believed to be suspicious, according to the RCMP.

“I want to make sure we are working with Exposed Wildlife Conservancy to share the message of what they are all about so people understand when they see these cameras."

“When you look at our plan and some of the characteristics, first and foremost, it’s First Nations-focused. We’re trying to address housing and labour, which is a big issue right now. There’s transportation, sustainability, and there’s environmentally friendly aspects of this project in terms of reducing carbon footprint.”

A home in K-Country valued at $530,000 based on 2023 property assessments, will pay about $12 more per month, or $144 annually.

“It’s still probably best to stick to low angle terrain and minimize overheard hazard throughout the rest of the season.”
