CANMORE – Recreational use at Cougar Creek Canyon near the popular Lady Macdonald Trail will be closed due to blasting and construction until further notice.

Alberta Parks issued an advisory stating the closure starts near the junction of Montane Trail and Lady Macdonald Trail and continues upstream for around one kilometre.

“To ensure visitor safety around the construction site, Alberta Parks is closing the access to Cougar Creek Canyon for all recreational uses,” said the notice.

Lady Macdonald will remain open but may be closed intermittently for construction. The nearby Montane Trail and Horseshoe Loop are open as well.

The closure is for work on the Town of Canmore’s Cougar Creek flood mitigation, which also closed the Lady Macdonald trail from 2020 to 2023.
