There was a letter several weeks ago in the May 23 edition of the Outlook “Better visitor infrastructure needed from provincial government” which I feel obliged to comment on.
It involves a local recreational vehicle owner bemoaning the fact that after spending a week spring cleaning his RV, there were no readily available dump stations. May I humbly suggest, a Google search would’ve provided directions to dump stations at the Willow Rock Campground on Highway 1X and another across the same highway in Bow Valley Provincial Park.
If you’re wondering, that’s where part of the fees from your Kananaskis Country pass go to.
Concerning the lack of “comfortable” bathroom facilities between Calgary and the Bow Valley, it’s because if they’re too cushy, someone is bound to damage or deface them. Should we really be spending a lot of time, money and effort on appearances when no one spends more than two or three minutes per visit?
I’ll also suggest that for anyone who’s travelled nine hours from somewhere and hasn’t used the facilities at the airport before embarking on a one-hour trip to our neck of the woods, then a little bladder pressure would be a good one-and-done learning experience.
I really don’t think it’s the responsibility of the Alberta government or taxpayers to toilet train locals, let alone tourists.
