No more lights out for Banff RCMP after a stolen historical coal miner's lamp was returned this week.

The 1900s era historical lamp was on loan to Parks Canada from the great-granddaughter of a local miner, when it was removed from a historic site near Lake Minnewanka in Banff National Park last July.

The historic site was part of an interpretive program held by Parks Canada where the Wolf Flame Safety Lamp was placed on the ground near the lamphouse as part of the guided walk.

The person who removed the lamp returned the stolen treasure to the Edmonton RCMP, who delivered it to the Banff RCMP, who then returned the lamp to the custody of Parks Canada.

"Extensive media coverage of this event contributed to its recovery," RCMP staff sergeant Michael Buxton-Carr said in the press release.

Further details about the removal of the lamp are not being released to the public, as the incident is still under investigation.
