According to Alberta Parks, construction work planned this summer to improve the Mount Yamnuska area in Bow Valley Wildland Provincial Park would create safety issues for recreational users and contractors if hiking and climbing routes were to remain open to the public.

Less than a week after introducing a private member's bill to curtail coal mining along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains, the Private Bills and Private Member’s Public Bills Committee unanimously approved it moving forward to the legislature.

“My stance remains the same, but I do not believe we need to go back and close restaurants, or shutdown many of these businesses a third time. I do want to be very clear that every Albertan does need to follow those restrictions that are in place and hopefully we can have our best summer.”

"I ask that as our representative in Edmonton, you make a determined effort to reach out to hear all perspectives in our community before taking such actions as refuting the need for continued caution in containing the virus. This is not a political issue but one of public health."

Miranda Rosin, the MLA for Banff-Kananaskis, was one of 16 UCP elected officials who signed a letter in opposition to the recently announced provincial public health restrictions.

“We had to put ourselves in danger to rescue that horse – you could see the fast-flowing water in the crevasse the horse had broken," said Lenny Wesley. “Those people, they weren’t selfish one bit … there was such unity to jump in. They were so brave and courageous – these wonderful people put their lives on the line.”
