Banff council will consider second and third reading of tax rate bylaw April 22

Area developers and the Town of Canmore took another step closer in heading to the Land and Property Rights Tribunal for an appeal of a bylaw that outlined close to $300 million in future infrastructure needs.

LETTER: As a former Banff resident and frequent visitor since 1994, I have continued to follow with interest the Railway Lands area redevelopment plan (ARP) process, most recently council's special meeting for the public hearing on March 20.

“Once you have more economic development opportunities and you’re making money from business perspectives, it helps you then return revenues back to address social needs or determinants in the community.”

LETTER: Actually, most whistles disappeared with the demise of steam locomotives, unless CPKC Rail was running the empress on a special trip. Nowadays, diesel-electric engines use electric horns. Same purpose, different way of doing it.

LETTER: I encourage Canmore residents to request council to reconsider its preliminary support of the program.

LETTER: It’s been almost five years since Canmore as implemented the Vanlife – also known as the Safe Park program – and we are still dealing with a shortage of (underpaid) employees in the community. How is that possible?

“I’m really excited about new opportunities and new direction that we are going to explore. … I’m excited for people to come to the public hearing and express their concerns and help us as best we can deal with those concerns,”

Council has passed first reading of a land use bylaw amendment to increase residential density, with a fundamental shift in philosophy centred around the number of dwellings on a site rather than what form they take.
