River search underway for possible missing swimmer near Seebe

A search of the Bow River was underway Saturday afternoon (Aug. 8) east of the Seebe Dam after RCMP received reports of a possible missing swimmer

SEEBE – A search of the Bow River is underway near Seebe after RCMP received reports of a possible missing swimmer, Saturday (Aug. 8).

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Chantelle Kelly said early reports indicate a male teen tried to swim across the river between the Seebe Dam and Horseshoe Dam, went under and didn’t resurface. Two individuals jumped in and attempted to find the person, but were unsuccessful.

Kananaskis Search and Rescue, RCMP, Exshaw Fire and Rescue and a conservation boat are searching the area.

STARS air ambulance was dispatched around 1:46 p.m. to assist with an aerial search for the possible missing person in the river. The helicopter surveyed the area, but did not fly any patients.

The waterway connects the Bow and Kananaskis rivers and is a well-known area for swimmers in the summer.

The Outlook will update the story as more information becomes available.
