RCMP are seeking the public's assistance in identifying a man who attempted to assault a child in Canmore, Thursday (Aug. 6).

At about 4:15 p.m., a 10-year-old girl was approached by an adult male outside her residence. The male told the girl his cat had kittens nearby, and asked the girl if she would like to see them.

Once away from the residential area in the trees, the male grabbed the girl around the waist and put his other hand over her mouth. The girl struggled, though, and was able to get away immediately.

Police immediately initiated a town-wide search and brought in an RCMP K-9 unit, but no suspects have been arrested.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male rider of an orange mountain bike. He is reported as being 18-20 years of age, five foot 10 to six foot two tall, and very slim, with short medium brown hair.

Canmore RCMP continue the investigation, and asks the public for assistance in identifying the suspect. Anyone with information that could assist the police, or that may assist in identifying the suspect, should contact Canmore RCMP at 403-678-5516.

If you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or report it online at www.tipsubmit.com. If the information leads to an arrest, tipsters are eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.00.
