Two Canmore men are facing charges after being identified as suspects in unrelated indecent exposure and arson incidents over the past week.

Canmore RCMP Sgt. Ryan Currie said a suspect wanted in connection with several incidents of exposing himself to teenage girls around Quarry Lake has been charged and is expected to appear in court on Aug. 14.

The first incident occurred on July 5 at the popular recreation spot in the early afternoon. Two teenage girls were walking in the area and observed an adult male a short distance away exposing himself. According to RCMP, the girls walked further down the path and again observed the same male in a different area exposing himself a second time. Last Wednesday (July 10) in the early afternoon, the same suspect is reported to have been observed exposing himself by another pair of teenage girls walking in the area.

After releasing a sketch and description of the suspect, Currie said officers also conducted surveillance in around Quarry Lake last week and were able to identify a suspect. He is facing charges of mischief and committing an indecent act.

Meanwhile on Sunday (July 14), Canmore RCMP received a report from eyewitnesses along Three sisters Parkway of a man deliberately setting a grass fire nearby.

Currie said members were able to locate a suspect on a foot trail near Peaks Drive, at which time he became aggressive when they tried to arrest him. The RCMP and Crown are considering charges of arson and resisting arrest.

The grass fire was quickly put out by Canmore Fire and Rescue crews.

However, a grass fire on Wednesday (July 10) near Old Camp along Highway 1A and one on Tuesday (July 9) near Cross Z Ranch also kept the fire department busy.

Currie said at this point those fires are still under investigation. Canmore RCMP are asking the public to provide any information that may lead to the identity of this suspect. Please contact the Canmore RCMP at 403-678-5519 if you can provide any information. If you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or report it online at www.tipsubmit.com. If the information leads to an arrest or recovery of stolen property, tipsters are eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
