One airlifted to hospital after Kootenay crash

Woman airlifted in "critical condition" after a head-on collision on Highway 93S.

UPDATE: Saturday (Aug. 17) at 10:30 a.m.:

STARS spokesperson, Mark Oddan, said the air ambulance was dispatched in response to reports of a two vehicle head-on collision with multiple patients in the Castle Junction area, approximately 30 kilometres west of Banff.

"We transported a 65 year-old female in critical condition to Foothills Medical Centre, Calgary," Oddan wrote, in an email.

Highway 93S was reopened at approximately 1:14 a.m. this morning.

KOOTENAY, B.C. - One individual was airlifted to hospital after a two-vehicle collision on Highway 93S in Kootenay National Park, B.C. near the Alberta border on Friday (Aug.16).

Cpl. Ron Bumery, a spokesperson for Alberta RCMP, confirmed one person was taken by STARS air ambulance to Calgary Foothills Hospital. The extent of the injuries are unknown.

Details regarding other passengers involved were not available at this time.

A Lake Louise RCMP member assisted at the accident scene, which occurred around 5:30 p.m.

On Twitter, 511 Alberta, which gives up-to-date highway conditions and safety information, wrote the highway is closed 3.4 kilometres south of Paint Pots, and is estimated to reopen at midnight.
