Lifts of Love slated for Norquay

Tired of the singles scene in the Valley? Looking for someone to share a love of skiing?

If so, and just prior to Valentine’s Day, Norquay is the place to be on Feb. 8, when Lifts of Love: High Speed Quad to the Heart takes place. The event will pair up singles who love to ski, with skiing and aprčs ski at the Lone Pine Pub included.

The idea came to co-organizer Heather Hendrie while sitting on a lift at an area ski hill. After suggesting it to Jeff Siddle, the pair decided to approach Norquay with the idea.

“It’s for people in the Bow Valley and beyond,” said Hendrie, “as a casual way to meet other folks who love to ski. It’s kind of a take on speed dating. It’s open to men seeking women, women seeking men, people seeking ski buddies. I don’t think anything like it has happened in the Bow Valley.”

The event is $25 for those who pre-register at www. liftsoflove.eventbrite.ca or $30 if you just show up at Norquay. The event is scheduled to run from 6:30 to 9 p.m. – with check-in at 6:30 p.m., singles chair rides and skiing to 9 p.m. and aprčs ski at the Lone Pine. The event includes a lift pass and discounts at the Lone Pine.

As full disclosure, Hendrie said she’s also looking to her own interests with setting up the event. “I’m a skier and moving to the Bow Valley and I find it’s sometimes hard to meet new people.

“So I thought how about I burst onto the scene and avoid my parents trying to get me into online dating. This is a very casual event, just a way to get singles out to the hill.

“Norquay was so keen when he approached them and they’ve really been helping out.”
