Fashion show slated

With fall officially arriving on Wednesday (Sept. 23), many people will be looking for a wardrobe change or upgrade before winter strikes the valley.

Fortunately, the Eye On Fashion show will offer plenty of choices when it takes to the runway at Mountain Lady’s Greenhouse in Canmore, Oct. 16.

Eye On Fashion is the second annual fashion show to be held at the greenhouse – and this year a portion of the proceeds will go to the Canmore Hospital Ladies Auxiliary to purchase necessary items.

The original 2014 event, which saw proceeds go to the Mountain Grannies, was organized by Leo Nugteren, owner of VIDA Fashion. Like last year, he said, this year’s fashion show, “will be fun, upbeat fun. We’ll have a T-shaped runway, tables with linens, coupons for people who attend, wine, coffee and tea and some snacks. And it’s all for a good cause.”

Fashions will be provided by VIDA, Rocky Mountain Flannel Company, Charisma Ladies Fashion and Shoes t’ Boot, photography is by Richard Brown and MB Hair and Makeup, Forged Storm, Healthy Funky Food and Willow Web Weavers are all businesses lending a hand.

Cocktails and snacks are at 6:30 p.m., with the show beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $40 and available at Mountain Lady’s Greenhouse, VIDA Fashion, the Flannel Company and Charisma.

Last year’s event was a near sellout and organizers are hoping for the same again as the funds will further push the Ladies Auxiliary toward the $1 million target they’ve set for 2017.

“We’ve raised $800,000 since 1978,” said Dorothy Ford, “and we’re hoping to make it a million dollars for our 40th anniversary.”

Funds raised by the Ladies Auxiliary have been used to purchase hospital wishlist items like an MRI, cancer wing equipment and an incubator and warming blankets for newborns.

About 20 models will be on hand to display the latest fashions for the valley and the two hour show will feature master of ceremonies Dr. Mike Wickham. The evening will feature fashion, fun, music, bevies and snacks provided by the ladies auxiliary.
