Family fun at annual Halloween parade

You know something is truly spooktacular when you are celebrating your sixth anniversary and more little ghosts and ghoulies are taking part. The Sixth Annual Family Halloween Parade is this Sunday (Oct. 27) and you’re invited – if you dare.

Parade organizer Annie Seguin has been busy preparing for things to go bump in the daytime for this year’s event.

The parade starts at noon in front of The Wood restaurant and will go down Main Street, turn left on Marra’s Way and ended at Rotary Friendship Park, where an after-party will take place.

“It started six years ago and I was just hoping to have 40 kids participate, and we ended up having 150 and had to close Main Street,” said Seguin. “Last year, we had 450 kids.”

She said she just wanted to start the parade for her children, and now it has become a well embraced community event. “It’s a great way to celebrate and have family fun,” Seguin added. “We’ll have free face painting at the Civic Centre from 9:30-11:30 a.m. where registered members will pick up their entry numbers for the parade.”

There is mandatory registration before Friday (Oct. 25). You can register for free at http://canmorehalloweenparade2013.eventbrite.com

At noon in front of The Wood, a mob dance to the choreography of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” will take place. To practice your dance routine, find the video on YouTube.

After the parade, candy bags for all registered children (ages 0 - 12) will be handed out in Rotary Friendship Park, and a best costume contest for children, adults and families will be held with a best overall prize of an Alpine Helicopter ride awarded.

Drinks and food will be available on site with dollar donations going towards next year’s parade. Parade organizers are looking for certified flagmen and other volunteers for the event. If you or someone you know is interested in helping, please contact Seguin at 403-675-0072.
