Daycare has no plans to vacate yet

It looks as if community support has buoyed the outlook for Canmore's Mountain Munchkin Daycare.

It looks as if community support has buoyed the outlook for Canmore's Mountain Munchkin Daycare.
A planned awareness rally on Saturday (April 5) was postponed given positive developments since the news broke that the daycare, which provides 94 child care spaces, was being evicted at the end of the month after lease negotiations broke down.
A press release from the daycare indicates they intend to continue to operate as is for the next few months after legal counsel advised them the request to vacate by April 30 by the Grotto Mountain Village Residents Association is unreasonable.
“We’re committed to remaining transparent and cooperative, and we’re optimistic that this can all be sorted out with further consultation, ” said co-owner Peter Rawlek in the release. “We believe we’re great tenants, and look forward to continuing to invest in the property and community should we be allowed to stay, but we must be treated fairly and reasonably. We think the residents of Grotto Mountain Village and Canmore as a whole will feel the same way. ”
Rawlek has offered to provide a third-party mediator should the residents association board wish to continue negotiations. The association owns the community hall that has been the home of the daycare since 2010.
