A Calgary man is facing a charge of failing to provide a breath sample after crashing a jet boat on an island in the Bow River last week.
The 52-year-old and two others were in the boat west of Canmore last Wednesday (June 13) after 8 p.m. when they went into a narrow channel of the river, which is under a high stream flow advisory.
Kananaskis public safety specialist Burke Duncan said the boat clipped a few trees on one side and ran ashore on the other.
Duncan said the sudden stop resulted in one of the three, a 45-year-old female passenger, suffering a minor injury to her head and was transported to hospital.
RCMP in a press release indicated alcohol appears to be a factor in the collision and the male will appear in Canmore Provincial Court this month.
Duncan said jet boats are legal to use on the river in this area but are unusual.
He added those people who are using kayaks or canoes on the river should be aware the water level is very high and it is running faster than usual.
“Features have changed and there are more log jams and different locations,” he said. “Right now it is not a good time for beginners if you are on the river right now you should know what you are doing because of the high flow.”
