The group of community members tasked with determining the future of the current library building as an arts development centre have been chosen.
Seven residents and two members of administration, along with Councillors John Borrowman and Hans Helder, will begin the task force’s work this month.
Deputy chief administrative officer Lisa de Soto said the purpose of the task force is to complete a public input process that engages Canmore residents and businesses in the establishment of priority components for a Community Arts Development Centre.
In addition, the task force will make recommendations to council on a strategy for operating the facility.
Timeline for the work has the task force producing a report by the end of September.
“Administration is concerned about the tight timelines and the ability to produce a report of value to move forward,” de Soto said, adding administration recommends a $10,000 budget be established to hire a consultant as a result.
“Administration believes a consultant would help facilitate this process, keep it on track and produce deliverables.”
Council, however did not make a motion to create a budget and a motion to extend the timeline by one month was defeated.
The task force is made up of Carol Stark, Dea Fischer, Karen Antrobus, Rob Murray, David Foxcroft, Michelle Decottignies and Carol Picard.
Manager of community enrichment Brenda Caston and supervisor of art and culture Chris Bartolomie will also participate.
