In the June 27, 2013 issue of the Rocky Mountain Outlook, we published a timeline of the major events that happened during the hectic first few days.
Starting on the evening of June 19, as torrential rains fell, water flows began to increase in many of the major tributaries that feed into the Bow River, including Carrot, Cougar, Three Sisters, Heart, Stone, Pigeon, Jura, Stoneworks and Exshaw Creeks.
The pace at which events began to unfold became more apparent with the dawn of June 20, a morning few in the Bow Valley will forget.
What became clear on the morning of the 20th was the far ranging scope of the destruction that was happening. Municipal agencies had already initiated many of the protocols they had in place, but what became apparent in the days and weeks to follow was the enormity of the effort put forth by volunteers; people who just wanted to help.
