Rain washes out section of High Rockies trail in K-Country

On Sunday (May 28), an advisory was issued for the trail, located in Spray Valley Provincial Park, after a small portion was discovered to be damaged by rain, south of the Goat Creek trail.

KANANASKIS COUNTRY – A section of the High Rockies trail was washed out by heavy rainfall over the weekend.

On Sunday (May 28), Alberta Parks issued an advisory for the trail, located in Spray Valley Provincial Park, after a small portion was discovered to be damaged by rain, south of the Goat Creek trail.

“Albertans exploring the area should be aware of the washout; however, the trail is passable,” said Bridget Burgess-Ferrari, communications advisor with Forestry, Parks and Tourism, in an email.

“The situation is not considered dangerous and there is no risk to public safety.”

According to Environment Canada, the Kananaskis area received about eight millimetres of rain from May 27-28.

Burgess-Ferrari said the trail is not closed and there are no plans to close it at this time.
