“We want every single person that goes out on the roads to get home safely. Obviously we want that because those are our children and our friends and our neighbours, but we also want it because the less you feel safe on the road and the less you're comfortable on the road, you're going to drive."

In an about-face from earlier in their meeting, Canmore council switched from heading to a special meeting later this week to discuss their mask bylaw to scraping it with a 6-1 vote.

“I feel like after all this time, we’ve sort of forgotten the actual reason for wearing the mask. It’s not about protecting ourselves, but it’s about protecting other people.”

“I do believe with the cuts from the provincial government to our MSI (Municipal Sustainability Initiative) fund these next few years in transition are going to be incredibly difficult. I believe having as much information and working through these budgets as early as possible is quite prudent so we can try to understand what the fall back is going to be on our community and the members of our community.”

“Grassroots groups and food support organizations rely on the Bow Valley Food Alliance to help them coordinate and connect. This donation will help us focus on what matters most – improving food security and food sovereignty in the Bow Valley.

“The big advantage we have is the municipalities collaborate very well. Banff, Canmore and Improvement District No. 9 all want to make transit better, so people can move around the valley without having to either own a vehicle or use their vehicle. You don’t typically see this kind of collaboration.”

The towns of Banff and Canmore will each have their respective events, though the COVID-19 pandemic will see it be more low-key than previous years. The two municipalities will also have an emphasis on Indigenous culture and history.

Kananaskis Public Safety specialists responded to 21 call-outs from Friday through Sunday, including a wingsuit jumper caught in trees to a man swept over Elbow Falls.
