The first snowstorm of the season has led to a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 93 North near Athabasca Glacier.

There are no details as of yet as emergency personnel respond.

Also, there were reports of two cars in the ditch and a tractor-trailer partially blocking eastbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway near the Lac Des Arcs underpass.

Traffic has been at a standstill, with some motorists on Bow Valley Road Conditions Facebook page describing it as a “gong show, nobody moving.”

However, other drivers are saying they were able to navigate around the tractor-trailer once visibility cleared.

A snowfall warning remains in place for much of the region, with heavy snow expected to continue Monday night and into Tuesday. Total amounts are estimated to be between 10 and 15 centimetres.

“Snowfall amounts may vary significantly as some of the snow will melt on contact with the warm ground,” states Environment Canada in the snowfall warning.

“Snow will end tonight over central Alberta and on Tuesday for southern parts of the province.”

Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

“Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions,” states the warning.

“If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.”

The story will be updated if more information becomes available.
