LAC DES ARCS – A man is in stable condition following a single motor vehicle collision Saturday morning near Lac Des Arcs that saw traffic on the west lane of Highway 1 delayed for several hours.

A spokesperson for STARS air ambulance said they were dispatched after multiple reports of a single vehicle colliding with the guard rail. When they arrived at the scene and landed on the highway, the 45-year-old man was transported to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, Mark Oddan, a senior communications officer with STARS, said in an email.

Exshaw fire chief Rick Lyster said they were called at about 7:30 a.m. to help extricate the male driver from the vehicle.

The RCMP and local paramedics were also on the scene to assist with the response and investigate the collision. The highway reopened later in the morning.

It’s the second time in the past 24 hours STARS, police and emergency medical services have responded to a motor vehicle collision in the Bow Valley.

They also responded to a collision between a motorcycle and a car Friday afternoon to the west of Morley on Highway 1a by the Goodstoney Rodeo Grounds. Oddan said one person was taken to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary.

Paramedics from the Stoney Nakoda Nation responded with firefighters from Exshaw and the RCMP, according to the Nakoda Emergency Management.

STARS also responded to an emergency call June 12 in the area of Lake Louise following a motorcycle collision.

A spokesperson for STARS said last week a man in his 30s was flown to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary and was in serious, but stable condition.
