CANMORE – As of Tuesday (Aug. 4), blasting activities in Cougar Creek related to the construction of a $48 million debris retention structure will begin.
According to an advisory from Alberta Parks, the Lady MacDonald Trail will be closed during blasting activities, which are expected to last for six to seven weeks.
As well, the Cougar Creek canyon area will be closed to public access for recreation while this work is underway.
According to the Town of Canmore's website, the multi-use trail on the west side of the creek is also temporarily closed to help facilitate construction activities.
The work to prepare for rock blasting activities begins Aug. 4 and there may be some test blasting this week as a result and more regular blasting beginning the week of Aug. 10.
The Town's website states that blasting mats will be used to keep sound and vibration down, however residents of surrounding neighbourhoods.
