"We know that you cannot prevent Canadians from going outside when the weather is nice, you just have to help them do it safely."

“We’re going to do full necropsies on these animals that we’ve euthanized to make sure it’s not some disease issue … but right now, we assume it’s starvation."

“We’ve noticed more situations this spring where we’ve had elk in the townsite,” said Blair Fyten, a human-wildlife coexistence specialist for Banff National Park. “It’s quieter, so these elk probably feel a little safer coming in and utilizing some of the lawns that are turning green.”

“Businesses can be assured that this idea is absolutely on the table for very serious consideration,” said Mayor Karen Sorensen.

“We may be relaunching and people are going to start coming to town sooner than we thought … I’m concerned about having a nest egg in case we need to hire back a little faster than we thought," said Banff Mayor Karen Sorensen.

“It’s a unique profession … we may not be as prolific as doctors and nurses, but we are proud of the work we do."

Recognizing people want to get outside with the COVID-19 lockdown, the Town of Banff has also opened the skateboard park at certain times when supervisors are available: weekdays from 3-5 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m-noon and 3-5 p.m.

“Businesses are certainly suffering and so are individuals,” said Banff Mayor Karen Sorensen.
