“I support waiving the fees. It didn’t occur to me that we would be looking at revenue generation from this this summer based on the circumstances,” said Mayor Karen Sorensen.

“These three cubs are not being saved by being in a zoo. This is not a happy ending for wild animals. This is condemning these bears to a life in captivity where they do not belong."

Parks Canada will reopen Banff National Park on June 1 and while Albertans will be able to access some trails, day-use areas and green spaces, visitor services and facilities will remain closed

"I know some people look at this town and think everyone is [affluent], but there are serious pockets of need.” 

“First and foremost, this is about public safety and trying to ensure we don’t get a spread of COVID in our community. But we need to understand we have businesses that are hanging on by a thread and we need to do everything we can," said Mayor Karen Sorensen.

“This year we saw a significant increase in our Alberta school tax levy because our assessed values in town, based on the assessment from the middle of 2019, were relatively higher than the rest of the province."

The Bow Valley Food Alliance hired a temporary coordinator, thanks to a grant from the Bow Valley Emergency Grant Funding, to help with immediate food distribution while also sharing education and growing its network

"We are a big mountain community and we need to take care of each other."

“It goes back to the fact B&Bs are an accessory use and these are residential neighbourhoods and what do we want our residential areas to look like,” said Corrie DiManno, who sits on MPC as a council representative.

"This is a cool way for everyone and anyone to get involved in citizen science."
