Blake Richards has been re-elected for a fifth term by voters in the Banff-Airdrie federal riding.

“I don’t believe we could create conditions of approval to ensure compliance,” said Mayor Corrie DiManno, a council representative on Municipal Planning Commission.

“People want to get out, be active and do what they love,” he said. “One of our COVID plans was to move all of our activities outside. We had an expo to get their package at Fenlands (Recreation Centre) and there were speakers, so we had everything outside this year. … We found a way to make it safe and people are ecstatic to get back at the marathon.”

“The Green Party has always been a vessel advocating to change the political arena to be healthier and to be more democratic and not be afraid to work across party lines. When faced with disaster, when faced with crises or hardships as a riding, province or a country, I think being able to collaborate and cooperate is what drives economics and solutions.”

“Grizzly bear predation of mountain goats is relatively common, and I guess the mountain goat was successful in this instance and turned the tables on the grizzly. These mountain goats are big animals and those horns are very sharp.”

“Parks has said what their decisions have been on the two proposals already for gondolas and they said a new proposal is unlikely to arrive at a different conclusion,” said Coun. Poole.

With federal election voting day just a few weeks away, Sarah Zagoda has announced she is looking to secure the Banff-Airdrie riding for the New Democratic Party (NDP).

“The system is broken, there is certainly corruption in all major parties. The basic ability of an MP to represent his constituents is gone. Everybody kind of knows that if you don’t do the bidding of the leader of your party, your career is going to be a short one. The people who have been a long time are there because they’ve learned how to be quiet, how to keep their heads low and how to kind of play the Ottawa game. I think people are sick of it."

Voters in the Bow Valley had their chance to hear from local candidates in the lead-up to the Sept. 20 federal election.
