Editor:
Wild horses of Alberta need our help. Please prevent the cull of our heritage beauties and bring forward a motion to create an Alberta Heritage Species Act.
Contact the Honourable Minister Diana McQueen, AESRD, the Honourable Christine Cusanelli, Minister of Alberta Tourism, or your local member of the legislative assembly to stop the potential slaughter.
Let the Wild Horses Run
A million years before us
They grazed on barren plains
Living by voices only they could hear
And as near as we can tell
The blue ice carried them away
Leaving skulls and bones, found to this day
Now some of these horses run wild
Near the Ghost and Devil’s Head
On the shoulders of the foothills
Along the mountain’s edge
Sheltered in the aspen, as still as white-tail deer
But the ravens are circling in the darkening fir
Let the wild horses run
Let the wild horses run
Free and true upon the eastern slope
From sun to shining sun
Let the wild horses run
The Stoney rode upon their backs
When they hunted buffalo
They carried warriors into battle
And brought our soldiers home
These are true and loyal partners
Don’t we owe these beauties something?
Let the wild horses run
Let the wild horses run
Free and true upon the eastern slope
From sun to shining sun
Let the wild horses run
Some say they are mixed Spanish mustang
Some say they have just come home
