Editor:

As the community of Banff faces the predictable results of corporate greed, Mayor Corrie DiManno asks residents to accept one simple fact: Banff has become a city in every way, featuring massive overcrowding, severe traffic flow problems and a crisis-level residential housing shortage.

For many years, the Town of Banff’s planning department has actively encouraged commercial growth with the intent of maximizing business activity.

Now, as a result of this deliberate approach, Banffites are forced to confront an ugly and damaging plan to increase residential density.

Not once have I heard a member of the existing elected council suggest reducing commercial activity or restricting business growth – the only realistic solution to Banff’s woes.

That I had to witness my hometown descend into an urban nightmare remains one of the greatest regrets of my life.

Shame on all of you who have actively or passively participated in Banff’s demise. Greed will destroy Banff within a generation – and you stood by and watched it happen.

Max Wilkie,

North Vancouver
