Not enough tennis courts

Give up a tennis court for pickleball? You cannot be serious!

I am a Grade 11 student from Canmore who started playing tennis a few years ago.

My biggest problem has always been getting a court to play on. Last year, I played at Veterans’ Park four times (these were scheduled lessons) and two times when I was able to get a court.

About 10-15 times, I tried to play there and the court was always busy. I prefer to play on that court because I like to practice and do not interrupt other players. My sister, who is 12, does not even play tennis because every time my parents took her downtown, the courts were all full and she also likes to play at Veterans; Park because she is a beginner.

I was very surprised to read that the Town is thinking of taking even more tennis time away by converting the Veterans’ Park Court to a pickleball court.

I actually played tennis in Kelowna last summer on a court that had been painted with pickleball lines. I had to stop after 15 minutes because I got a migraine. My father then tried to play there with my uncle, but they could only hit the ball and not play tennis because the lines were too confusing.

Please do not change any of the tennis courts in Canmore. We have four courts for 14,000 people. The Town should be adding more tennis courts, not taking them away.
