In our 24 years in Canmore, we have often been asked "Where's a good place to eat?"

With happy confidence, we've always answered "There's no bad food in Canmore. You can't go wrong!"

In truth, we could have added, and often did, that we had more great meals at Santa Lucia on Main Street than all the other places combined. Since 1993 Frank Barbaro, his family and team have never sent out a plate they were not rightly proud of.

When you read this, the doors will be closed for good – but not for long as another long time local will be reopening soon with a new format that will add to Canmore's bounty – and Frank and family will explore the possibilities of a well-earned retirement.

Will they be missed? Certainly. But mostly they'll be remembered for all they added to the lucky life we enjoy in this precious valley. They turned food into love. They should know that a grateful community wishes them many years of all the best.

Jeff Caskenette and Karen Halkier,

Canmore
