The current debate regarding a summer pedestrian zone represents a variety of local issues. These include emergency evacuation, noise pollution, air pollution, gridlock of humans and overflowing buses.

We need to stop the ongoing constant marketing of Banff to begin addressing these growing problems. I applaud Banff National Park’s superintendent for upholding national park laws to keep the townsite in check.

The requests from our elected municipal officials to override national park laws to directly support business are apparent and demonstrate poor stewardship of this special place. Let's stop to consider the impacts of rising visitation on the environment and residents.

Banff’s primary attraction is its natural stunning beauty. We cannot allow this industrial tourism to continue to eat our host.

Beth Woolley Monod,

Banff
