I first met Van Christou in the spring of this year at his beautiful home on Buffalo Street.

I had been invited to participate in a discussion about the sewage bridge – The Arc d’Effluent (I believe that family members coined that name for this structure) – that is to be built very close to the Christou home.

Immediately upon being introduced to Van I was impressed by his gracious and welcoming manner. His was the sort of hospitality that made me feel like I had known him for years, rather than mere minutes.

At the meeting, and during two subsequent visits to his home, it became obvious that I was in the presence of a wise and very astute man. A diplomat, he was very tactful when discussing the Arc d’Effluent and Town of Banff officials with whom he disagreed on a number of subjects.

While I did not know Van very well I had been looking forward to getting to know him better. I will miss him.

My condolences to his family.

Jon Whelan,

Banff
