“I’m trying to figure out what to do now and what my next step is with the girls,” Simeon said. “They need a place to call home. That’s my main focus.”

“Everything is burned, everything is gone,” said Christopher Simeon. “I have nowhere to go with the girls – I have nowhere to call home.”

“Transportation is a huge issue … and fresh fruits and grocery stores have not developed along the reserve,” said Stoney Health Services executive director Aaron Khan. “Bringing the food market specifically to the reserve it gives the nation members an opportunity to purchase fresh fruits and veggies at a pretty good price.”

Children and youth are allowed to practice minor sports starting Monday (Feb. 8).

Three people have been charged with more than 30 offences and are set to appear in Cochrane Provincial Court in February.

“That means trying to push them to make changes for the better where we can, that means trying to criticize with the intent of seeing improvement to the programs that exist, that means pushing them to get our economy reopened, to have a vaccine plan. All of those things that I’ve talked about, that is the first and foremost job.”

A 28-year-old man from the Stoney Nakoda First Nation was arrested and a 12-gauge shotgun was also recovered.

Officials with Alberta Health are working with First Nations on a plan for vaccine delivery and distribution.

“So far, we’ve done good and I think we’re going to beat this,” said Stoney Nakoda Emergency Management director Mike Crawford. “Just stay home and avoid people.”
