Two people are dead and one is in hospital after a collision involving three motorcycles along Highway 1A on Monday evening (April 26).

Stoney Nakoda RCMP and the Cochrane Integrated Traffic Unit found what is believed to be methamphetamine and fentanyl in a vehicle after it was stopped Saturday evening near the Ozada Flats exit.

“Orphan bear cubs need rescue," said Cochrane Ecological Institute president Clio Smeeton.

“One of those challenges will be too many people wanting to use the bus. I think this gives us a great opportunity to try the reservation system and determine if it is viable for our transit services, primarily our regional type services."

Police charged a 37-year-old man with criminal negligence causing death after the body of a woman was found along Highway 1A east of Mount Yamnuska on Sunday morning (April 19).

According to Alberta Parks, construction work planned this summer to improve the Mount Yamnuska area in Bow Valley Wildland Provincial Park would create safety issues for recreational users and contractors if hiking and climbing routes were to remain open to the public.

Less than a week after introducing a private member's bill to curtail coal mining along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains, the Private Bills and Private Member’s Public Bills Committee unanimously approved it moving forward to the legislature.

“My stance remains the same, but I do not believe we need to go back and close restaurants, or shutdown many of these businesses a third time. I do want to be very clear that every Albertan does need to follow those restrictions that are in place and hopefully we can have our best summer.”
