A $266,000 donation to Canadian Rockies Public Schools will be used to help renovate the Canmore Collegiate High School theatre and add a new culinary arts kitchen at Banff Community High School.

“There’s been a lot of challenges and adversities students have encountered over the school year – I’ve literally seen blood, sweat and tears. I had a student that actually sewed her finger, and I also had a student who made a ribbon skirt with a broken heart – she had tears falling as she was making it.”

“There is definitely a need for the community to have its own fire hall,” said Blair Birch, director of capital projects and public works with Stoney Tribal Administration. “But in conjunction with that, you also need some trained people – a volunteer fire department with some training and background and equipment to be able to respond from a local level.”

“We want to make a welcoming space for people to come and learn about environmental topics and ask questions. This is an opportunity for people to come together around topics and find connection and find hope and action as well.”

“To allow for more community engagement, we’ve programmed the whole month to help celebrate Indigenous storytellers, musicians, artisans, and also our cultural workers and dancers,” said Janine Windolph, director of Indigenous arts at the Banff Centre.

“Books are not hard to find, but Indigenous books are hard to find, which is why this gift from Marigold and the Canmore Rotary means so much.”
