The hotel will undergo a “comprehensive top to bottom renovation to transform the hotel” as part of a significant, but undisclosed, investment, with work anticipated to begin in 2024.

An increase in density for two parcels of land that could lead to 12 residential units – including two potential affordable housing units – was approved by Canmore council on Three Sisters Drive, but highlighted the possible need for a comprehensive planning process for infill development.

The 8.27-hectare privately-owned piece of land at 800 3rd Avenue, split into four sub-districts, was narrowly approved for the development of four homes, as well as a proposed six-bed palliative care facility, with considerations for a conservation easement in what is a known wildlife habitat area.

As some of the speakers said, no one thing is going to solve the whole problem, but every little bit counts and this was one every little bit. It’s so hard for anyone to find housing.

Canmore council will decide on the future of employee housing in industrial areas in the community, as development applications have come forward putting businesses and Town staff in conflict over housing.

An appeal against the Town of Canmore’s planning department to deny employee housing in the light industrial area of Bow Meadows Crescent was denied by the Town’s Subdivision and Development Appeal Board.
