“I have no doubt in my mind that this is the right thing to do,” said Mayor Karen Sorensen.

The Town of Canmore is formalizing two official off-leash zones at Quarry Lake, while residents in Banff are asking for a dividing fence at the industrial compound off-leash dog park to separate smaller dogs from larger ones.

Banff council will discuss mandatory mask bylaw on Monday (July 27) and Canmore council is expected to have a similar discussion during the first week of August

While administration at CRPS maintains a procedure that directs students to "dress appropriately" is a broad direction for principals to follow, handbooks tells students at one local high school to dress in a way that is not a "distraction" to others and to "please respect the modesty of yourself and others."

"We recognize how difficult masking would be, especially in lower elementary grades, which is why we are not relying on any single health measure to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the school setting," said Alberta Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw.

Due to the difficult terrain at the crash site and lack of road access, some of those injured were triaged and treated before being airlifted to a staging area where ambulances were waiting. Injuries ranged from serious head and pelvic trauma to leg and shoulder fractures. 

"We are still urged to not have large-scale public events, and the main reason for that is the inability to do contact tracing without registration, or some form of identification of individuals," said Jason Darrah, director of communications for the Town of Banff.

As of Tuesday (July 21) afternoon, the Bow Valley had 14 positive active cases confirmed with eight in Banff, six in the overall Canmore geographical area, which includes two cases in the MD of Bighorn and one in the town of Canmore

Once underway, the project is expected to generate 14 jobs in the Banff area
