“The fact that Banff and Canmore would be split and not be in the same riding makes no sense to me. I do have some major concerns there and I do think there is a way that it can be fixed.”

Banff-Airdrie MP Blake Richards is out as the chief opposition whip for the federal Conservative Party.

“I've always saw myself as a voice for the people of the riding, whether I've been in government or opposition. I always feel there's a way you can be effective and getting called out for those viewpoints. You just take a different approach, and I'll continue to take the approach I have. I believe we can still get results for our area. I believe that I can still be an effective voice for our constituents and always continue to work to do that.”

Blake Richards has been re-elected for a fifth term by voters in the Banff-Airdrie federal riding.

A recent poll of the Banff-Airdrie riding conducted by Saskatoon-based Spadina Insights projects Blake Richards will once again be headed to Ottawa as the Member of Parliament for Banff-Airdie. 

Ron Voss has no desire to be a career politician and running as an independent in the Banff-Airdrie riding this election is not a bucket-list item for the retiree, he simply wants to represent Alberta from Alberta – not Ottawa.

“The Green Party has always been a vessel advocating to change the political arena to be healthier and to be more democratic and not be afraid to work across party lines. When faced with disaster, when faced with crises or hardships as a riding, province or a country, I think being able to collaborate and cooperate is what drives economics and solutions.”

With federal election voting day just a few weeks away, Sarah Zagoda has announced she is looking to secure the Banff-Airdrie riding for the New Democratic Party (NDP).

“The system is broken, there is certainly corruption in all major parties. The basic ability of an MP to represent his constituents is gone. Everybody kind of knows that if you don’t do the bidding of the leader of your party, your career is going to be a short one. The people who have been a long time are there because they’ve learned how to be quiet, how to keep their heads low and how to kind of play the Ottawa game. I think people are sick of it."

Voters in the Bow Valley had their chance to hear from local candidates in the lead-up to the Sept. 20 federal election.
