Editor:

Doug Hamel, a long-time resident of Banff now making his home on Cortes Island, British Columbia, had a stroke on March 2.

He was helicoptered to the nearest hospital for treatment. Doug is now back home, but the damage from the stroke has left him with limited eyesight and he cannot drive and may never be able to. He is back home with support from three of his sisters and on a course of medications to manage his stroke, blood pressure and atrial fibrillation.

Until his stroke, Doug was self-employed and operating a thriving general contracting and carpentry business.

A crowdfunding campaign has been set up at chuffed.org/project/doughamel with more details and updates.

Brian Scott,

Cortes Island, B.C.
