Editor:

Firstly, thank you, Jim Pissot for your eye-opening letter “Carlson rally stokes fear-mongering, us-versus-them approach” in the Feb. 1 edition of the Outlook.

As members of the local Bow Valley Credit Union (BVCU), we were appalled and devastated that our credit union was a sponsor of Tucker Carlson’s rally and the CEO, Brett Oland representing BVCU, introduced him.

We unequivocally do not share the same values as Mr. Carlson, as Mr. Oland so boldly claimed in his introduction of Mr. Carlson. As members, we demand that the board investigate the BVCU’s and Mr. Oland’s part in this rally.

If this is truly whom our credit union supports, a person who tells untruths, promotes fear-mongering and hate, and preaches conspiracy theories, how can any credit union state that it contributes to a strong, prosperous and better community?

Mr. Carlson’s views are so right wing that even Fox News fired him. Should this be the type of person our credit union backs?

From our perspective, Mr. Oland and the BVCU have done our community a great disservice and we feel that BVCU members deserve a public apology.

As long-time “believers in” and “members of” the credit union, we expect an explanation and response from the board. At the time of writing, we have not been able to send in our official letter of complaint to each of the board members as board member's information can only be obtained through Mr. Oland’s office and we have not heard back from them.

We encourage all members of BVCU who may also have been upset with this turn of events to let your local credit union know, file a letter of complaint with BVCU main office, write to CUCentral – the governing body of all CUs in Alberta – and register for the online BVCU annual general meeting on Feb.13th.

Embarrassingly yours,

Donna and Marsh Kennedy,

Canmore
