Peak Performance: The Painting Company that Aims High

The owners pride themselves on customer service and appreciate their motivated long-term employees that share the company’s goals. The two men strive to be active managers, fully engaged in running and managing the business.

Eric Massey launched Peak Performance in 2006.

“It was the lure of the mountains,” smiles Eric. “I had run two other paint companies, one in Calgary and one in Montreal. I had previous experience in Canmore and wanted to go where the market was good, and where I could live and play in the mountains. At the ripe ‘old’ age of 25 I was lured to Canmore along with all the other snowboarders and climbers.”

Today, Peak Performance is co-owned by Joe Splane. Together, they paint the town red – or blue, or white… whatever colour the clients want. And that’s not all they do. In addition to interior and exterior painting for residential and commercial properties, Peak Performance is the one to call to install your most impressive Christmas light displays.

“Another way we distinguish ourselves in the industry,” says Joe, “is our colour consultations. It’s a niche we offer. We arrive and bring colours in the usual fan deck. As we narrow down the choices, I move to the big paper format to allow a greater perspective. I put those up around the house to help our clients see what their homes could look like. From there, we paint patches onto the walls so the client can live with the colours and see them in different lighting.”

“It’s cool!” Eric adds. “For someone making a change from a dark to a light wall colour, for example, they can make better decisions and see the big difference their choice will make.”

Bonny is the office manager, "she keeps us on point and on time". Eric and Joe each run their own divisions and they maintain their own teams. With the help of Bonny, they are able to be more organized when the busy summer's demand everything they have.  "Even during our busiest season, we're able to provide quick turn around times for quotes, and have the capacity for heavy work loads. We are always actively working on the company and we make the time to ensure we are running things efficiently."

Joe and Eric are proud to be owners/operators in Canmore and enjoy supporting the local community. Both contribute to and are active in CAMBA (Canmore and Area Mountain Bike Association), BOWDA (Bow Valley Builders & Developers Association) and the Bow Valley Chamber of Commerce.

“Canmore is full of likeminded entrepreneurs. We are here for our families and the mountains. We run our companies to support that,” says Eric. “Here is where you can work and then ski on the weekends. So, I’m constantly meeting local business owners on the ski hill or mountain bike trails – and those owners become our friends. It’s quite a unique experience.”

Peak Performance won best painting company in Rocky Mountain Outlook’s Best of the Bow awards last year.

Eric and Joe say, “Our success is due to our team, clients, and property managers in town. We also thank PEKA Professional Property Management and Asset West Property Management. Both have been huge contributors to our success.

Eric and Joe look forward to continued growth and onboarding and training qualified painters. Learn more about the company on their website and on Instagram and Facebook.
