The monies should be used for more and better traffic law enforcement in Canmore.
Speeding is not the only problem. So are illegal parking and illegal turning. One of the worst areas is at Sobeys, Canadian Tire and Safeway. For example, vehicles travelling on Railway Avenue southward are not allowed to turn left into the north entrance of Safeway’s parking lot or turn left to exit the north entrance of Safeway’s parking lot onto Railway Avenue.
There are four clearly visible no-left- turn signs at the location. I saw vehicles turning left illegally into the parking lot or turning left to exit the parking lot each time I was in the area.
I have seen a blue pickup truck belonging to a utility company, an SUV belonging to a dog sledding company, taxis and personal vehicles, doing the illegal turns. They did not heed the no-left-turn traffic signs. Also, there are often shoppers parked right at the no parking and fire lane signs.
I wrote to the Town of Canmore once last summer, but have not heard any response.
