Marilyn “Lyn” Madden
Marilyn “Lyn” Joan Madden passed away peacefully at her home in Canmore on April 15, 2021. She was born in 1943 in Montreal, Quebec
to the late Francis and Marguerite Madden. After moving to New Jersey, USA, as a child, she excelled in academics and sports in school. Following her graduation from Middlebury College in Vermont, she pursued graduate and PhD work in Anthropology at the American University in Washington, DC.
While working at the White House for many years was a highlight in her
life, Lyn was also able to explore many other places including overland
through Africa for several months, enthusiastically traversing Europe,
and soaking up the sun in Mexico. She also lived and worked in Belgium
and Denver before moving to Canmore to be close to her mother and other
relatives in the early 2000s.
While she now is on her next adventure, she will be dearly missed for
her warmth, laughter, generosity, and loving presence. Marilyn is
survived by her immediate family: her sister Sharon Madden Harkness,
brother-in-law Richard, niece Heather, cousin Catherine Ashdown,
Catherine’s children Catherine’s children Angela (Kris) and Adam (Carly), cousin (Jackie) Ashdown, Gary’s children Chad (Shannon) and Desi (Jason), as well as many other relatives including her beloved cat Ducky.
A memorial service for Lyn will be held at a yet-to-be-determined date in
the future when her loved ones are able to safely gather in remembrance.
Due to all the difficulties many families have faced through covid-19,
Friends wishing to remember Lyn are encouraged to make a donation,
in her memory, to your local food bank or local SPCA.
