Donald Golding

1933 - 2023

It is with heavy hearts we announce the recent passing of Donald Arthur Golding at the age of 89 years. Donald passed away peacefully on September 26, with wife Sandra and daughter Amanda at his side, at Mineral Springs Hospital in Banff.

Born to parents Annie and Levi on a potato farm in Peel, NB in 1933, Donald was the youngest of 7 children.  Donald left home at 16 to get a job with the Bank of Nova Scotia and then with GM in Oshawa, Ontario. In the early 1950’s he made his way west, briefly stopping for a while in Calgary, before falling in love with Banff. Donald met wife Sandra at her cousin’s wedding and they married in 1961. In 1971 they welcomed daughter Amanda to the family.

Donald worked for Parks Canada as Head Purchasing Clerk, and was also the Chairman of the Banff School Board and served 2 terms on Banff Town Council.  He served also 3 terms as President of the National Component of the PSAC Federal Union.

Donald enjoyed golf and hiking and he and Sandy spent many years enjoying 5 pin bowling. Donald will be greatly missed by family and friends from all over.

At Donald’s request there will be no funeral service or memorial.

Friends wishing to remember Don are encouraged to make a donation, in his memory, to the Alberta SPCA.
