Bill Young

June 20, 1946 - January 12, 2023

On January 12, 2023 an amazing man passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta. We lost William ‘Bill’ Young, Country Bill, Uncle Bill (to more than just family), Captain of the Young Adventure Club, curator of fun times, lover of Disney, Mr. Bean, and John Candy films, he was an ice cream fanatic, rascal, visionary and talented artist.

Born into a loving home in Lacombe, Alberta to Ross and Dorothy Young, Bill was the oldest of five children, with each he formed a close friendship that he truly treasured. A creative, self-driven, entrepreneurial spirit, Bill grew up building go carts and tree houses for his siblings while excelling at football and art that then led to a scholarship at the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary. Bill’s calling for business drew him into a world of sales and real estate, making many connections along the way. The best deal he ever made included a caveat for going on a blind date with a lovely young woman who 6 months later became his partner in love and life for the next 52 years. Marion was his Pixie, the true light of his life. They shared many adventures with friends and family and built a beautiful life with success in retail and real estate.

Amongst all of Bill’s achievements he was most proud of his family. His three girls; Sharon (James), Shelley, and Shanyn (Darren) and his amazing grandchildren; Owen, Theo, Remi and Oona; his sisters Linda (Wayne) and Betty and brothers; Ken (Barb), and Doug (Wendy) and his many nieces and nephews. He also dearly loved his animals.

Bill leaves behind a legacy of fun, laughter, zest for life and everlasting love.

We wish to send a heartfelt thank you to Origin at Spring Creek, all the staff and residents that have shown so much kindness and support to Bill and Marion over the last six and a half years.  We would also like to apologize to anyone he offended. Bill could be a turkey. He enjoyed being spicy and loved to dole out a finger wag.

A Celebration Of Life will be held at a future date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canmore Hospital and the Bow Valley SPCA in Bill’s honour.
